About Pursuit Races: Pursuit is for PHRF races with a defined distance. After creating a race with a given distance, starting times for each boat are calculated by subtracting the handicap time from the basic start time. On this basis, if all boats sail to their handicaps, they will cross the finish line simultaneously! One advantage of this handicap rule is that the order of finish is the same as the final standing. The time correction is calculated in exactly the same way as for PHRF, time on distance.

Start: In or near Duck Island Roads, Westbrook, CT. Start time for each entrant, based on time-on-distance handicap and course, will be listed in the Entry List. The First Start will not be before 1830, without consent of the entrant, and the Last Start will not be later than 2045. Communication by cell phone will be required for confirming proper start time and actual finish time.

Rules: This regatta will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012, the Sailing Instructions, and this Notice of Race.

Rules Changes: The Sailing Instructions change the following rules: Rule 35-Time limit is by boat, Rule 62.1(a)-Restriction on redress, Rule 77-Appendix G sail numbers are not required, Race Signals-Postponement signaled ashore

Safety Requirement: Jack lines and harnesses must be used.

Courses: The Race Committee will select and include courses in the Entry List prior to the race. Course lengths will range from approximately 40 to approximately 110 nautical miles.

Sailing Instructions and Entry List: Will be available at Duck Island Yacht Club, Hammock Road South, Westbrook, CT, in the box to the left of the Race Committee bulletin board located below the deck in the front of the clubhouse building, and online at www.diyc.com. The Sailing Instruction no later than 24 hours prior to first Start and the Entry List 3 hours prior to first Start

Classes: Several spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes based on PHRF-ECSA handicaps are planned. At lease one planned class will finish at Block Island, other(s) will finish at Duck Island. Indicate preference on Entry Form.

Eligibility: Entrants must hold a current, valid PHRF-ECSA certificate on file in the ECSA/PHRF online database or a valid DIYC PHRF Certificate before the Close of Entries, or submitted in hard copy with the entry form. Additionally, boats must contain as a minimum, a self-bailing cockpit, fixed berths, galley facilities and the ability to be self supporting for a weekend cruise.

Facilities: Some slips may be available gratis at DIYC on a first come first served basis. A limited number of transient town moorings are available for boats under 32 ft LOA in the Patchogue River. Dockage may also be found at Pilots Point Marina and anchorage may be found inside Duck Island breakwaters.
