LONG ISLAND SOUND CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA

DUCK ISLAND YACHT CLUB, WESTBROOK, CT

AUGUST 23 - 24, 2008

 NOTICE OF REGATTA

VENUE: Etchells Fleet #24 – Eastern Long Island Sound, invites all active members and associates of the International Etchells Class to the Long Island Championship Regatta, to be sailed August 23 - 24, 2008, in Westbrook, Connecticut.

 

ORGANIZING AUTHORITY:  Duck Island Yacht Club in Westbrook, CT is the Organizing Authority.

 

EVENT HEADQUARTERS: Race Headquarters will be at Brewers Pilot’s Point Marina North Yard located at Boston Post Road, Westbrook, CT (www.byy.com/westbrook)

 

1. RULES:

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the 2005-2008 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the Notice of Race (NOR), the International Etchells Class Rules, the Sailing Instructions (S.I.’s) and any amendments thereto.

1.2 The regatta is an Etchells Class C sanctioned event.

1.3 The regatta is classified Category A as defined in Appendix 1 - ISAF Advertising Code.

1.4 The Sailing Instructions (SI) will be available at registration.

 

2. Advertising:  Advertising will be restricted to Category A.

 

3. Eligibility and Entry:

3.1 All competitors shall comply with the International Etchells Class Rules pertaining to entry eligibility and the ISAF Eligibility Code, Regulation 19.

3.2 The weights and total combined crew weight of each crew including skipper will be determined prior to racing to ensure compliance with One Design Rule 7.1

3.3 Yachts may enter in advance by completing the Long Island Sound Championship entry form and mailing it, along with $200.00 entry fee no later than August 10, 2008 to:

3.4 Yachts may enter in advance by completing and sending via email the on-line entry form along with mailing the entry fee to the address above.

3.5 Entry is not considered complete unless accompanied by the appropriate entry fee and all crew have completed a Crew Waiver by the time of sailing (available at on-site registration).

3.6 A $50 late entry fee will be charged for all entries received after August 10, 2008. No entry will be accepted after Thursday August 21, 2008. Entry fee is refundable (minus a $30 handling fee) if notice of cancellation is received and confirmed by August 10, 2008.

 

4. REGISTRATION / MANDATORY CHECK-IN:
4.1 On-site registration and mandatory check-in will take place at Event Headquarters on Friday, August 22 from 1600 until 2030.

4.2 All Registration formalities, including payment of all unpaid Class and event fees, sail measurement, safety compliance checks, crew weigh-in and presentation of original hull and sail measurement certificates, are required to be completed by 2030 hours on Friday August 22, 2005.

 

 

5. WAIVER OF LIABILITY:
Each skipper shall complete registration which includes a Skipper Waiver in order to participate in the event. In addition, a Crew Waiver signed by every crew member that will sail on the boat throughout the event is required. If a crew member or skipper is under the age of 18 years-old, a parent or legal guardian must sign the Crew Waiver. Failure to comply with the aforementioned registration requirements shall invalidate a boat’s entry.

 

6. RACING:
Racing will be held on Long Island Sound in the vicinity of
Duck Island in Westbrook, CT.  The race course and the number of daily races will be determined by the Race Committee based upon weather conditions. It is the intent of the Organizing Authority and Race Committee to conduct as many races as practical on each day of racing.

 

7. COURSES: Windward-Leeward courses will be sailed.

 

8. SCORING: RRS A4 Low Point Scoring System will apply. A minimum of one race shall constitute a series. A boat’s worst finish may be discarded after a class has completed four races.

 

9. PRIZES: The first three yachts will receive prizes.

 

10. EQUIPMENT:

VHF Radio: All competing boats shall carry a hand held VHF capable of transmitting & receiving communications on channels 9, 16 and 68.

 

11. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS: Please note that the social events, with the exception of the awards presentation, are provisional until registration is completed on Friday August 22, 2008.
