ETCHELLS FAGAN MINI SERIES SAILING INSTRUCTIONS – 2008

(Item 12. SPECIAL RULES revised 1/12/07 removed reference to "Snowbird")

  1. RULES: The Duck Island Yacht Club Etchells Fagan Mini Series will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2005-2008, the prescriptions of the United States Sailing Association (USSA), the rules of the applicable one-design class association, the rules of Fleet 24 (except as any altered by these sailing instructions) and by these sailing instructions.
  2. ENTRIES: Eligible vessels must be entered by filing a completed registration form and paid a full entry fee with Duck Island Yacht Club (DIYC). All vessels dry-sailing at DIYC must have completed a dry storage form and paid in full in order to be scored. Failure to do so will result in that yacht not being scored.
  3. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS: Will be posted on the official notice board located at the front of DIYC on the lot level by 1100 on the day that the change will take place.
  4. THE COURSE: The course for each race will be selected and displayed by the Race Committee (RC) immediately prior to the first gun of each race. A number designating the course to be sailed will be displayed on the course board of the RC boat. Course 1 = once around, course 2 = twice around, etc.
  5. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE: Announcements made ashore will be through the One Design PRO and/or the Etchells Fleet 24 Fleet Captain.
  6. SCHEDULE OF RACES: The first warning will be at 1300. Multiple races are planned each day. Each vessel shall sail by the RC boat (Sitting Duck) to check in prior to their first race. Etchells will be Class Three.
  7. MARKS: All marks except the starting mark will be yellow.
  8. THE START: The starting sequence will be in accordance with RRS 26. The starting line will be between an orange flag located on the RC boat and the nearest orange mark set to port.  Etchells may not sail through the start/finish line on any leg of the course other than starting or finishing.
  9. THE FINISH: The finish line will be between an orange flag located on the RC and a yellow mark set to starboard of the RC boat.  Finishes will be upwind.
  10. TIME LIMIT: The time limit will be 1 hour for the first finisher. Any vessel finishing more then 30 minutes after the first finisher will be scored Did Not Finish (DNF). The RC may award the last three vessels their position should conditions make it impractical to await their finish.
  11. PROTESTS: Protest shall be written on forms available from the RC and lodged within 30 minutes after the RC boat returns to the dock.
  12. SPECIAL RULES: At no time shall any vessels or competitors touch any dock not belonging to DIYC. Failure to obey WILL result in a DSQ for that days racing for the first offense and a DSQ for the series for the second offense. No vessels are permitted to cross the yacht in the eastern end of the crane horseshoe or touch any vessel in the DIYC slips. Failure obey will result in a DSQ for that day's racing for the first offense and a DSQ for the series for the second offense.
  13. SCORING: The series will be scored in accordance with Appendix A2 (RRS) with the exception that any vessel must compete in 70% of the races to qualify for the series, and all vessels will throw out 20% of their worst scores. Any vessels competing in an Etchells regatta in another location may be permitted to get their average for the races missed at DIYC for the days racing BEFORE throw-outs. Official Etchells regattas will be determined by the Etchells Fleet 24 Fleet Captain.
  14. RADIO COMMUNICATIONS:  The RC will monitor VHF channel 68.
