SAILING SEASON BEGINS WITH A BANG!!!!      Cruise Photos

Report by Burke & Donna Schlott

The opening event of the cruising season began with Roz and Bob Weinstein's weekend cruise to Hamburg
Cove.  On Friday three boats, Til Ceilidh, and Just Desserts, motored to the Cove and opened the festivities with
a KFC feast.  Saturday the weather continued to cooperate and three more Duckie boats, Twilight Zone, Shennanigans,
and Flying Cloud arrived.  The cocktail party on Twilight Zone was very special for all of us since we got to see the
Blunden's new boat - a realy beautiful Sabreline with a navy hull and fabulous interior appointments.  Sunday's cruise
up Seldon Creek  on Just Desserts was beautiful, peaceful, and dry; for those of you who not gunkholled up Seldon
Creek, you are missing a special place.  The culminating event of Sunday was the carry-in supper on Til.  Several
dingy's picked up 13 Duckies and guests at the dock and brought them to Til for the party.  You can not fully
participate in this party until you try one of Roz's famous jelloshots.  This party really opens the cruising season;
I find it interesting that the peace and quiet of this beautiful cove melds wonderfully with the merriment of 30 plus
Duckies. The balance of the weekend was spent traveling home and remembering the fun and great times we
all had in Hamburg Cove.  Thank you Roz and Bob for leading this opening cruise for Duck Island Yacht Club.

The Planning

How exciting! The 2005 DIYC cruising program begins with a “cruise” to Hamburg Cove for Memorial Day Weekend. There are town moorings ($10, I think) and anchoring. Sunday night we are planning a carry-in supper on “Til… What to Bring? If you last name begins with:Photo borrowed from community.webshots.com
A-I - dessert (or salad)
J-O – hors d’oeuvres (Marcus hopefully will being chopped liver!)
P-Z – main course
And, also byob! We will be supplying paper goods and ice.

Seven years ago we tried for the first time to include non-cruisers to join us at Hamburg since it is on the Connecticut shore. It worked out really well (just ask Kim and Mike Dowie, who are now parents of a beautiful baby boy!) and we plan to do the same thing this year; SO, if you would like to join us for the carry-in supper on Sunday evening, we will have a pick up at the dinghy dock at Hamburg around 4:00 p.m. Please give us a call at home (860) 525-4249 or on our cells at (860) 227-5070 or (860) 391-4252 before Saturday May 28th so we will know how many dinghies to send. (Don’t forget to bring you food contribution.) Sunday morning, if there is enough interest and weather permitting, we are planning our Annual (which we haven’t done in years) “gunk hole” tour by caravan of dinghies over to Seldon Creek (about 1-1/2 miles) or maybe up to the Town of Hamburg and around there (less ambitious). So make sure your dinghy has enough gas and is in good condition. Saturday evening will be a cocktail party (not dinner). We will let you know on Saturday whose boat it will be on. So, bring an hors d’oeuvre to share and byob. Should be a fun weekend. If you have any questions, or know now that you will meet us by land and need a pick up, please give us a call. Also, if we know you are coming by boat we will try (if possible) to save some extra moorings.
