Ode to the Un-cruise to Three Mile Harbor

The planning had started with Howie and Laurie,

So that’s where we will start this somewhat sad story.

Directors of Cruise for Bastille Day were needed.

The Blundens stepped forward, once Howie had pleaded.

The planning was easy, they’d done this before.

Just duplicate last year – that’s not a big chore.

The Boys and the Girls Club collecting our money;

Relaxing on boats on a day warm and sunny.

The date’s ‘round the fifteenth, and that never changes.

The rest is a show some rich lady arranges.

Fireworks, raffles, good friends, reverie

But alas, after all, it was not meant to be.

We found things do change, when it’s quite unexpected.

First the date, then the cause, why who would have suspected?

Get out all new emails, description adjusted

Everything’s different, but still it’s not busted.

What else could go wrong with this planned get together?

Oh yes, one more thing, we do need some good weather.

That’s the last straw – made the cruise just not happen.

It was more than just spirits that ended up dampened.

The winds they were howling, the rain really pelted.

Seventy boats in the harbor, their hopes jointly melted.

One duck flag was flying, but no one responded

In spite of the plans that had been corresponded.

Instead of a tale of how fireworks exploded

This ends up a report of a cruise that imploded.

The show was postponed ‘til the weather was clear

But all is not lost ‘cause we’ll see you next year!
